Uses and Benefits of ACROTAC 25MG CAPSULE (ACITRETIN 25MG)

Acitretin 25mg is mainly prescribed for severe forms of psoriasis and certain other disorders of skin thickening and scaling.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Severe plaque psoriasis
• Palmoplantar psoriasis (psoriasis of palms and soles)
• Certain disorders of keratinisation such as ichthyosis and Darier's disease
• Other skin conditions as advised by a dermatologist

HOW IT WORKS

• It is a retinoid that normalises the growth and shedding of skin cells
• It reduces excessive scaling, thickening and redness of skin
• It helps restore a more normal skin cell turnover cycle

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for mild or occasional skin dryness
• Not a treatment for acne alone
• Not for use during pregnancy or for women planning pregnancy soon
• Not a substitute for other prescribed psoriasis treatments unless advised by your doctor

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dryness of lips and mouth
• Dry and peeling skin
• Dry eyes

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nosebleeds due to dry nasal lining
• Changes in nail texture
• Muscle or joint pain
• Mild rise in liver enzymes or blood fats
• Sensitivity to sunlight

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Severe headache with blurred vision (possible raised pressure in the brain)
• Severe mood changes, depression or thoughts of self-harm
• Vision problems or night blindness
• Signs of pancreatitis such as severe stomach pain
• Any signs of pregnancy while on treatment

How to Use ACROTAC 25MG CAPSULE (ACITRETIN 25MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Take with a meal or milk, as it is better absorbed with food
• Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own
• Continue for the full duration advised, even if skin improves early
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for the period advised after stopping

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, inform your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep in original packaging, away from moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
