WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of stroke and blood clots in people with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
• Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)
• Prevention of DVT after hip or knee replacement surgery

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks the action of thrombin, a protein in blood needed for clot formation
• Reduces the ability of blood to clot excessively
• Helps keep blood flowing smoothly through veins and arteries

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for immediate pain relief or fever

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
• Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water
• Do not open, crush, or chew the capsule as this can increase absorption and risk of bleeding
• Can be taken with or without food
• Take at the same times each day to maintain steady blood levels

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual

STORAGE
