Uses and Benefits of AMPILOX-C 250MG INJECTION (AMPICILLIN 125MG+CLOXACILLIN 125MG)
This combination medicine is prescribed to treat various bacterial infections in adults and children.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and sinusitis
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Wound infections and infections after surgery
- Infections of the bone and joints in some cases
HOW IT WORKS
- Ampicillin and cloxacillin are both penicillin-type antibiotics
- Ampicillin kills a broad range of bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall
- Cloxacillin specifically targets bacteria that produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase, which would otherwise destroy ampicillin
- Together they cover more types of bacteria than either medicine alone
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu, or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- Fever without a confirmed or suspected bacterial cause
- As a general painkiller or fever reducer

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Stomach upset or pain
- Loss of appetite
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Skin rash or itching
- Headache
- Vaginal itching or discharge (due to yeast infection)
- Sore mouth or tongue
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat
- Difficulty breathing or wheezing
- Severe skin rash, blistering, or peeling skin
- Severe or bloody diarrhoea, especially with stomach cramps
- Yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
- Unusual bleeding, bruising, or persistent sore throat and fever

How to Use AMPILOX-C 250MG INJECTION (AMPICILLIN 125MG+CLOXACILLIN 125MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the dose and frequency advised
- Preferably take on an empty stomach, about one hour before or two hours after food, unless your doctor says otherwise
- Swallow tablets/capsules with a full glass of water
- If using syrup, shake well and use the measuring cup provided
- Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop
- Try to take doses at evenly spaced times each day
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep reconstituted syrup in the refrigerator if advised by the pharmacist, and discard after the recommended number of days
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to penicillin, ampicillin, cloxacillin, or any other beta-lactam antibiotic
- Have had a severe allergic reaction to any antibiotic in the past
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have a history of allergies or asthma
- Have a history of stomach or intestinal problems, especially colitis
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Oral contraceptive pills, as effectiveness may be reduced
- Methotrexate, as blood levels may increase
- Blood thinners such as warfarin
- Probenecid, which can increase levels of this medicine in the body
- Other antibiotics being taken at the same time
