Uses and Benefits of BIOFF I.V. (OFLOXACIN)
Ofloxacin is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria in different parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Urinary tract infections
- Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Infectious diarrhoea caused by bacteria
- Certain sexually transmitted infections
- Eye and ear infections (in drop form)
HOW IT WORKS
- It stops bacteria from copying their genetic material (DNA)
- This prevents the bacteria from growing and multiplying
- The body's immune system then clears the remaining infection
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not work against viral infections like cold or flu
- It is not used for fungal infections
- It should not be used to treat infections that are not caused by bacteria
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain directly
Always complete the full course as prescribed, even if you feel better earlier, to prevent the infection from returning or bacteria becoming resistant.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Stomach discomfort
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Skin rash or itching
- Sleep disturbances
- Vaginal itching or discharge in women
- Loss of appetite
- Taste changes
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Sudden tendon pain or swelling, especially in the ankle or heel
- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, or throat
- Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
- Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
- Signs of nerve problems like tingling, numbness, or weakness
- Severe diarrhoea with blood or mucus
- Mood changes, confusion, or seizures

How to Use BIOFF I.V. (OFLOXACIN)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
- Swallow the tablet with a full glass of water
- Can be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time daily
- Drink plenty of fluids while on this medicine
- Avoid taking it along with dairy products, antacids, or iron/calcium supplements at the same time; leave a gap of a few hours
- Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
- Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink
Safety Information and Precautions for BIOFF I.V. (OFLOXACIN)
This medicine is available only with a doctor's prescription in India.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to ofloxacin or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics
- Have a history of tendon problems related to fluoroquinolones
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor
- Are below 18 years of age, unless prescribed by a specialist
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have epilepsy or any seizure disorder
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have a heart rhythm problem or are on heart medicines
- Have diabetes
- Have myasthenia gravis
- Are elderly, as risk of tendon injury is higher
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Antacids, iron, zinc, or calcium supplements
- Blood thinners like warfarin
- Theophylline used for breathing problems
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Medicines that affect heart rhythm
- Oral diabetes medicines like insulin or sulfonylureas
