Cefotaxime injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections in different parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Infections of the respiratory tract like pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Infections of the skin and soft tissue
• Bone and joint infections
• Meningitis (infection of the brain lining)
• Infections of the abdomen and pelvis
• Blood infections (septicaemia)
• Prevention of infection during certain surgeries

HOW IT WORKS

• Cefotaxime stops bacteria from building their protective outer wall
• Without this wall, the bacteria become weak and die
• This helps clear the infection and reduce symptoms like fever

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not work against viral infections like common cold or flu
• It is not used for fungal infections
• It should not be used to self-treat minor infections without a doctor's advice
• It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain directly

HOW TO TAKE IT

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Since this is usually given in a hospital or clinic, missed doses are uncommon

• Do not try to give a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store the unopened vial in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
• Keep out of reach of children
