Uses and Benefits of BONISTA CARTRIDGE (TERIPARATIDE 250MCG\ML.)
Teriparatide is used mainly for the treatment of osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become weak and brittle and are more likely to fracture.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fractures
- Treatment of osteoporosis in men at high risk of fractures
- Treatment of bone loss caused by long-term steroid (glucocorticoid) use in patients at high fracture risk
HOW IT WORKS
- Teriparatide is a man-made form of parathyroid hormone
- It stimulates bone-forming cells (osteoblasts), helping to build new bone
- Over time this increases bone density and reduces the risk of fractures, especially in the spine
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for general bone pain not related to osteoporosis
- It is not used for children or young adults with growing bones
- It is not a treatment for other types of bone diseases such as Paget's disease
- It is not used as a first-line treatment for mild bone thinning (osteopenia)

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site
- Nausea
- Joint pain or muscle aches
- Headache
- Dizziness, especially after the first few doses
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Leg cramps
- Fatigue or weakness
- Increased sweating
- Mild increase in blood calcium levels
- Low blood pressure symptoms like light-headedness on standing up
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue, or difficulty breathing
- Severe or persistent vomiting
- Symptoms of very high calcium levels such as confusion, excessive thirst, or irregular heartbeat
- Fainting or severe dizziness after injection
- Signs of kidney stones such as severe back or abdominal pain, blood in urine

How to Use BONISTA CARTRIDGE (TERIPARATIDE 250MCG\ML.)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily by injection under the skin
- Injected into the thigh or abdomen, at around the same time each day
- Sit or lie down for the first dose in case you feel dizzy
- Use a new needle each time and follow the pen device instructions given by your pharmacist
- Do not inject into a vein or muscle
- Do not shake the pen; keep it in an upright position
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
- Do not take two doses on the same day to make up for a missed one
- If you forget for that day, skip it and continue with your normal schedule the next day
- Contact your doctor if you miss several doses in a row
STORAGE
- Store in a refrigerator, away from the freezer compartment
- Keep the pen in its outer carton to protect from light
- Do not freeze; discard if it has been frozen
- Keep out of reach of children
- Dispose of used needles safely as advised by your pharmacist

This is a prescription-only medicine in India and should be used only under the supervision of a qualified doctor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Have high blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia)
- Have bone cancer or cancer that has spread to the bones
- Have Paget's disease of bone
- Have unexplained high levels of alkaline phosphatase
- Have previously received radiation therapy to the bones
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Are a child or adolescent with growing bones
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney stones or kidney disease
- Have a history of high blood calcium
- Have severe liver disease
- Are on any other bone treatment
- Have low blood pressure or fainting episodes
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Digoxin (heart medicine) — calcium changes can affect its action
- Other calcium or vitamin D supplements — may increase calcium levels
- Other osteoporosis medicines, especially bisphosphonates
- Always share your full list of medicines and supplements with your doctor
