Caspofungin Acetate is prescribed for treating serious, often hospital-acquired fungal infections that affect the blood or internal organs.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Invasive candidiasis (fungal infection in the blood or body)
- Invasive aspergillosis when other antifungal treatments have not worked or cannot be used
- Suspected fungal infections in patients with fever and low white blood cell counts
- Oesophageal candidiasis (fungal infection of the food pipe)
HOW IT WORKS
- It blocks an enzyme fungi need to build their cell wall
- This weakens the fungal cell wall and destroys the fungus
- It works against fungi that other antifungal classes may not treat effectively
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Common skin fungal infections like ringworm
- Vaginal yeast infections
- Viral or bacterial infections
- Nail fungus
- Preventing fungal infections in healthy individuals

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Fever

- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Pain, redness or swelling at the infusion site
- Low potassium levels

- Severe or worsening rash during infusion
- Sudden drop in blood pressure or fast heartbeat during infusion

HOW TO TAKE IT
