WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Anaemia caused by chronic kidney disease, including in patients on dialysis and those not yet on dialysis
• Anaemia caused by certain chemotherapy treatments for cancer
• Reducing the need for blood transfusions in some anaemic patients

HOW IT WORKS

• It acts like the natural hormone erythropoietin, which signals the bone marrow to make more red blood cells
• Increasing red blood cells helps carry more oxygen around the body
• This improves symptoms of anaemia such as tiredness and breathlessness

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for anaemia caused by iron, vitamin B12, or folate deficiency unless these are also corrected

• Signs of pure red cell aplasia such as sudden worsening of anaemia despite treatment

HOW TO TAKE IT
