Uses and Benefits of CRESP 60MCG INJECTION (DARBEPOETIN ALFA 60MCG)
This medicine is used to treat anaemia, a condition where the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen properly.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Anaemia caused by chronic kidney disease, including in patients on dialysis and those not yet on dialysis
- Anaemia caused by certain chemotherapy treatments for cancer
- Reducing the need for blood transfusions in some anaemic patients
HOW IT WORKS
- It acts like the natural hormone erythropoietin, which signals the bone marrow to make more red blood cells
- Increasing red blood cells helps carry more oxygen around the body
- This improves symptoms of anaemia such as tiredness and breathlessness
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for anaemia caused by iron, vitamin B12, or folate deficiency unless these are also corrected
- It is not a treatment for infections or bleeding disorders
- It is not used to boost red blood cells in healthy people for sports performance; this is illegal and dangerous

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Headache
- High blood pressure
- Swelling in hands, feet or ankles
- Joint or muscle pain
- Injection site reactions like redness or pain
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Skin rash or itching
- Nausea or vomiting
- Cough or shortness of breath
- Fever
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Signs of a blood clot such as chest pain, sudden breathlessness, leg swelling or pain, or weakness on one side of the body
- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe rash
- Seizures (fits)
- Sudden severe headache with confusion, which may indicate uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Signs of pure red cell aplasia such as sudden worsening of anaemia despite treatment

How to Use CRESP 60MCG INJECTION (DARBEPOETIN ALFA 60MCG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given as an injection under the skin or into a vein, usually by a doctor or nurse
- The dose and frequency will be decided by your doctor based on your blood test results and body weight
- Do not shake the injection vigorously; it should be handled gently
- Regular blood tests will be done to monitor your response and adjust the dose
- Do not change the dose or frequency on your own

STORAGE

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to darbepoetin alfa or any of its ingredients
- Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Have a history of pure red cell aplasia caused by erythropoietin-type medicines
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have high blood pressure or heart disease
- Have a history of blood clots, stroke or seizures
- Have liver disease
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have low iron, vitamin B12 or folate levels, as these need correction for the medicine to work well

- Blood pressure medicines, as dose adjustments may be needed
- Blood thinners or anticoagulants, due to increased clotting risk
