Uses and Benefits of DARBESURE 40MG INJECTION (DARBEPOETIN ALFA 40MCG)
Darbepoetin Alfa is used to treat anaemia, a condition where the blood does not have enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen properly around the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Anaemia due to chronic kidney disease, including patients on or not on dialysis
- Anaemia caused by certain chemotherapy treatments for cancer
HOW IT WORKS
- It is a synthetic form of erythropoietin, a hormone naturally made by the kidneys
- It stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells
- This helps reduce tiredness and the need for blood transfusions caused by anaemia
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for anaemia caused by iron, vitamin B12, or folate deficiency unless these are corrected first
- It is not a treatment for infections or bleeding disorders
- It is not meant for general fatigue not related to low red blood cell counts
- It should not be used to boost athletic performance

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Headache

- Swelling in hands, feet or ankles

- Nausea or vomiting

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Signs of a blood clot such as chest pain, breathlessness, leg swelling or pain
- Sudden severe headache, confusion or seizures (may indicate very high blood pressure)
- Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing
- Symptoms of pure red cell aplasia such as sudden worsening of anaemia despite treatment
- Stroke-like symptoms such as slurred speech, weakness on one side of body

HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given as an injection, either under the skin or into a vein
- It is usually administered by a doctor or trained nurse in a clinic or hospital setting
- Do not attempt to self-inject unless properly trained by your healthcare provider
- The dose and frequency will be decided by your doctor based on your blood counts and response
- Regular blood tests are needed to monitor haemoglobin levels during treatment

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to darbepoetin alfa or any of its ingredients
- Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Have pure red cell aplasia caused by previous erythropoietin therapy
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have a history of blood clots, stroke or heart disease
- Have high blood pressure
- Have a history of seizures
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have liver disease or any chronic illness
- Are undergoing cancer treatment, as this medicine may affect tumour growth in some cases
