Interferon Alpha 2B is used to treat certain chronic viral infections and some types of cancer.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Chronic Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection
- Certain blood cancers such as hairy cell leukaemia and chronic myeloid leukaemia
- Some skin cancers like malignant melanoma (as adjuvant therapy)
- Certain other tumours as advised by a specialist doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It mimics natural interferon proteins made by the body's immune system
- It boosts the immune system's ability to fight viruses and abnormal cells
- It can slow down the multiplication of virus-infected or cancerous cells
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for common cold, flu, or ordinary viral fevers
- It is not a painkiller or fever medicine
