WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling blood sugar in type 1 diabetes

HOW IT WORKS

• The lispro component acts quickly to control the rise in blood sugar after meals
• The protamine-bound lispro component releases insulin slowly, giving longer-lasting background control

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Treating diabetic ketoacidosis as an emergency injection form
• Treating type 2 diabetes as a first-line option before lifestyle changes and oral medicines are tried
• Sudden severe drops in blood sugar (it does not treat hypoglycemia, it can cause it)

• Swelling of hands or feet

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe hypoglycemia with confusion, seizures, or loss of consciousness
• Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue, breathlessness
• Very low potassium levels causing muscle weakness or irregular heartbeat
• Rapid weight gain with breathlessness (possible heart-related fluid retention)

How to Use EGLUCENT MIX 25 PEN (INSULIN LISPRO 25% + INSULIN LISPRO PROTAMINE 75%)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Inject under the skin (subcutaneously) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm as shown by your doctor or nurse
• Usually given shortly before a meal, as advised by your doctor
• Do not inject into a vein or muscle
• Rotate injection sites to avoid lumps or skin changes
• Check the insulin visually before use; do not use if it looks clumpy or discoloured
• Do not mix with other insulins unless your doctor specifically instructs this

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• If you miss a dose close to mealtime, check your blood sugar and contact your doctor for advice
• Do not double the next dose to make up for a missed one
• If you are unsure, monitor your blood sugar closely and seek medical advice

STORAGE

• Store unopened insulin in a refrigerator (2-8°C); do not freeze
• Once in use, the insulin pen or vial can usually be kept at room temperature, away from heat and light, as per the pack instructions

• Discard as per the expiry date or once opened for the period mentioned on the pack
