This medicine is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria in various parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis and tonsillitis
• Ear, nose and throat infections
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
• Early Lyme disease in some cases

HOW IT WORKS

• It belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics
• It stops bacteria from building their protective outer wall
• Without this wall, the bacteria are unable to survive and the infection is controlled

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not work against viral infections such as common cold or flu
• It is not effective for infections caused by bacteria resistant to cephalosporins
• It should not be used to self-treat fever or infection without a doctor's diagnosis
• It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain that is unrelated to infection

• Severe watery or bloody diarrhoea, which may be a sign of a serious bowel infection
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, which may indicate liver problems
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• It is best taken with or shortly after food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or split it
• Complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better before finishing it
• Do not stop the medicine early unless advised by your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack
• Discard any unused tablets safely as advised by your pharmacist

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Anticoagulants like warfarin, as bleeding risk may increase
