WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Abdominal infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Infections of the blood (septicaemia)
• Infections in hospitalised or critically ill patients

HOW IT WORKS

• Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by stopping them from building their cell walls
• Tazobactam blocks an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that some bacteria use to destroy ceftriaxone
• Together they make the antibiotic effective against a wider range of bacteria, including some resistant strains

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
• Fungal infections
• Mild infections that can be treated with oral antibiotics

• Seizures or confusion

HOW TO TAKE IT

• This medicine is given only by injection, into a vein or muscle, by a doctor or nurse

• The dose, frequency and duration will be decided by your doctor based on your infection and health condition
• Complete the full course as advised, even if you start feeling better earlier
• Do not stop the course on your own as this can lead to the infection returning or bacteria becoming resistant

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Since this is given under medical supervision, contact your hospital or clinic immediately if a scheduled dose is missed
• Do not try to self-administer an extra dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• This medicine is stored and prepared by hospital or pharmacy staff
• It is generally kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight before reconstitution
• Once mixed for injection, it should be used within the time specified by the healthcare provider
• Keep out of reach of children

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
