WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Bone and joint infections
• Meningitis
• Infections of the abdomen and pelvis
• Sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhoea
• Prevention of infection before certain surgeries

HOW IT WORKS

• It belongs to a class of antibiotics called third-generation cephalosporins
• It stops bacteria from building their protective outer wall
• Without this wall, the bacteria cannot survive and are destroyed
• It works against a broad range of bacteria, including some resistant strains

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Signs of low blood cell counts such as persistent fever, sore throat or extreme tiredness
• Seizures

HOW TO TAKE IT

• This medicine is given only by a doctor or nurse, usually as an injection into a muscle or vein

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
