WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Meningitis
- Infections of the abdomen and pelvis
- Sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhoea
- Prevention of infection before certain surgeries
HOW IT WORKS
- It belongs to a class of antibiotics called third-generation cephalosporins
- It stops bacteria from building their protective outer wall
- Without this wall, the bacteria cannot survive and are destroyed
- It works against a broad range of bacteria, including some resistant strains
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not treat viral infections such as common cold or flu
- It is not effective against fungal infections
- It should not be used for infections not confirmed or suspected to be bacterial

HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given only by a doctor or nurse, usually as an injection into a muscle or vein

- Do not stop the treatment early as the infection may not be fully cleared

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
