Uses and Benefits of FOSENTIN INJECTION (FOSPHENYTOIN 75MG.)
Fosphenytoin is used mainly for the emergency treatment and control of seizures (fits), particularly a condition called status epilepticus, where seizures are prolonged or occur one after another.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Control of status epilepticus (continuous or repeated seizures)
- Prevention and treatment of seizures during or after neurosurgery
- Short-term substitute for oral phenytoin when a patient cannot take medicines by mouth
HOW IT WORKS
- It converts in the body into phenytoin, the active anticonvulsant
- Phenytoin stabilises the electrical activity of nerve cells in the brain
- This reduces the spread of abnormal electrical signals that cause seizures
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for routine, long-term daily seizure control at home
- It is not a painkiller or sedative
- It is not used for absence seizures (petit mal), and may worsen them
- It is not used for headaches, migraine, or anxiety

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness or sleepiness
- Nausea
- Itching, especially in the groin area, during infusion
- Unsteady walking or incoordination
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Headache
- Tremor
- Low blood pressure
- Slurred speech
- Confusion
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Irregular heartbeat, chest pain, or very slow heartbeat
- Severe skin rash, blistering, or peeling skin
- Swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)
- Severe drop in blood pressure or fainting
- Signs of liver problems such as yellowing of skin or eyes
- Unusual bleeding or bruising

HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given only by a doctor or nurse, as an injection into a vein or muscle

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
