Granisetron is mainly used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting caused by cancer treatment or surgery.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Preventing nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy
• Preventing nausea and vomiting caused by radiotherapy
• Preventing nausea and vomiting after surgery

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks a natural chemical called serotonin in the body
• Serotonin can trigger the vomiting centre in the brain and gut
• By blocking this action, granisetron reduces the feeling of nausea and the urge to vomit

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for motion sickness
• It is not a general painkiller or anti-anxiety medicine
• It is not used for routine stomach upset or infections
• It does not treat the underlying cancer or disease, only the nausea symptoms
