Uses and Benefits of IDROFOS 1MG INJECTION (IBANDRONIC ACID)

Ibandronic acid is mainly prescribed for bone-related conditions where bone loss or weakening occurs.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women to reduce risk of spine and other fractures
• Prevention of bone loss in people at risk of osteoporosis
• Management of bone complications (such as pain or fractures) caused by certain cancers that spread to bone
• Treatment of high calcium levels in the blood caused by cancer (hypercalcemia of malignancy)

HOW IT WORKS

• It belongs to a class of drugs called bisphosphonates
• It attaches to bone tissue and reduces the activity of cells (osteoclasts) that break down bone
• This slows bone loss and helps bones stay stronger and denser over time
• It can also help lower excess calcium in the blood by reducing bone breakdown

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller for general body pain
• It is not used to treat sudden fractures from injury
• It is not a calcium or vitamin D supplement, though these are often needed alongside it

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Stomach upset, indigestion, or acid reflux

• New or unusual thigh, hip, or groin pain (possible unusual thigh bone fracture)
• Difficulty or pain while swallowing, chest pain, or severe heartburn (signs of esophagus irritation)
• Signs of severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing, or severe skin rash
• Severe muscle, joint, or bone pain that is disabling

How to Use IDROFOS 1MG INJECTION (IBANDRONIC ACID)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take the tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a month on the same date each month
• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of plain water, first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach
• Do not lie down for at least 60 minutes after taking it; sit or stand upright to reduce risk of throat/esophagus irritation
• Do not eat, drink anything other than plain water, or take other medicines for at least 30-60 minutes after the tablet, as advised by your doctor
• If given as an injection, it will be administered by a healthcare professional in a clinic or hospital

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• If you miss your monthly tablet, take it the next morning after you remember, unless your next dose is due within a week
• If it is close to your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular monthly schedule
• Do not take two doses close together
• Contact your doctor or pharmacist if unsure what to do

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not store in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to ibandronic acid or other bisphosphonates
• Have low blood calcium levels that have not been corrected
• Cannot sit or stand upright for at least 60 minutes
• Have certain esophagus problems that cause delayed emptying, such as stricture or achalasia (for tablets)

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney disease
• Have dental problems or need dental surgery/tooth extraction soon
• Have swallowing difficulties or stomach/esophagus disease
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have low levels of calcium or vitamin D
• Are already taking other bisphosphonates

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Calcium supplements, antacids, or iron/mineral supplements (can reduce absorption if taken together with tablet)
• Aspirin and other NSAID pain relievers (may increase stomach irritation)
• Other bisphosphonates or bone-affecting medicines
• Always inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking
