Uses and Benefits of MELALITE FORTE CREAM (HYDROQUINONE (4% W/W))

Hydroquinone 4% is mainly used to treat skin conditions where patches of skin become darker than the surrounding area.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Melasma (dark patches, often on the face, common during pregnancy or with hormonal changes)
• Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark marks left after acne, injury, or skin irritation)
• Freckles and age spots (solar lentigines)
• Other localised areas of unwanted skin darkening as advised by a dermatologist

HOW IT WORKS

• It slows down the activity of an enzyme called tyrosinase, which is needed to make melanin (the pigment that gives skin its colour)
• With reduced melanin production, dark patches gradually become lighter over weeks of regular use
• It works only on the areas it is applied to, not on the whole body

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a general fairness cream and should not be used to lighten normal, evenly toned skin
• It does not treat vitiligo (white patches) or fungal skin infections
• It is not meant for use on large areas of the body or for long-term daily use without medical supervision

• Severe redness, swelling, blistering, or oozing of the skin
• Signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching all over, swelling of face or lips, or difficulty breathing
• Blue-black darkening of the skin (a sign of a condition called ochronosis) with prolonged use
• Unusual or worsening skin discolouration instead of improvement

How to Use MELALITE FORTE CREAM (HYDROQUINONE (4% W/W))

HOW TO TAKE IT

• For external (skin) use only; do not swallow
• Wash and dry the affected area gently before applying
• Apply a thin layer only to the dark patches, as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily
• Avoid applying on broken, irritated, or sunburnt skin
• Wash your hands after applying, unless the hands are the treated area
• Use sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure on treated skin, as this medicine can make skin more sensitive to sunlight
• Do not use for longer than advised by your doctor, as prolonged use can cause skin darkening (ochronosis)

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule
• Do not apply extra or more frequently to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light, and moisture
• Keep the tube tightly closed after use
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
