This combination medicine is used to treat severe and multi-drug resistant bacterial infections in different parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Severe hospital-acquired infections
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections
- Complicated urinary tract infections
- Severe lower respiratory tract and lung infections
- Bloodstream infections (septicaemia)
- Skin and soft tissue infections caused by resistant bacteria
- Infections in critically ill or ICU patients where other antibiotics have failed
HOW IT WORKS
- Meropenem stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall, causing them to die
- Sulbactam blocks enzymes (beta-lactamases) that bacteria produce to destroy meropenem
- Together they widen the range of bacteria that can be killed, including many resistant strains
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Common cold, flu, or other viral infections
- Mild infections that can be treated with oral antibiotics
- Fungal infections
- Preventive use without a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing
- Severe watery or bloody diarrhoea (may indicate serious gut infection)
- Seizures or fits, especially in patients with kidney problems
- Signs of severe skin reaction such as blistering, peeling skin
- Unusual bleeding, bruising, or signs of infection like persistent fever
- Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)

HOW TO TAKE IT

STORAGE

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to meropenem, sulbactam, or other carbapenem/penicillin-type antibiotics
