Cefepime is used to treat serious bacterial infections in different parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections
- Infections in patients with weak immunity, including fever with low blood cell counts
- Intra-abdominal infections, often combined with other antibiotics
HOW IT WORKS
- It belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics
- It stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall
- Without a proper cell wall, the bacteria die and the infection is controlled
- It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not treat viral infections such as common cold or flu
- It is not effective against fungal infections
