Ceftriaxone 2gm is used to treat serious bacterial infections affecting different parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Severe respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Meningitis and other infections of the nervous system
• Abdominal infections
• Infections of the blood (septicaemia)
• Surgical infection prevention before certain operations
• Sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea

HOW IT WORKS

• It belongs to a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins
• It works by stopping bacteria from building their protective outer wall
• Without this wall, the bacteria cannot survive and the infection is controlled
• It is effective against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not treat viral infections such as common cold, flu, or most sore throats
• It is not effective against fungal infections
• It should not be used for infections that are known to be resistant to it
• It is not a painkiller or fever reducer on its own

• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing
• Severe skin rash, blistering, or peeling skin
• Severe or bloody diarrhoea that does not stop
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Severe pain at the injection site or signs of infection there
• Seizures or confusion
• Signs of gallbladder problems such as severe abdominal pain

HOW TO TAKE IT

• This medicine is given only as an injection into a muscle or vein

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
