This medicine is used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections, especially those caused by resistant bacteria.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Abdominal infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Infections of the blood (septicaemia)
- Meningitis in certain cases
- Surgical infection prevention as advised by the doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Ceftriaxone is a cephalosporin antibiotic that stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall, killing them
- Sulbactam blocks certain bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases) that would otherwise inactivate ceftriaxone
- Together they widen the range of bacteria that can be treated, including some resistant strains
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu, or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- Minor infections that can be treated with oral antibiotics
- As a general painkiller or fever reducer

- Signs of kidney problems such as reduced urine output or swelling

HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given only as an injection, either into a vein (IV) or into a muscle (IM), by a doctor or nurse
- It is not available as a tablet or syrup for home use
- The dose, frequency and duration will be decided by your doctor based on your infection and health condition
- Complete the full course even if you start feeling better, unless your doctor advises otherwise
- Do not stop early as this can lead to the infection coming back or becoming resistant to treatment

- If you miss a scheduled appointment for your injection, contact your doctor or hospital immediately to reschedule
- Do not try to self-administer a missed or extra dose

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to ceftriaxone, sulbactam, or other cephalosporin or penicillin antibiotics
- Are a newborn baby with jaundice or receiving calcium-containing IV products (special caution needed)
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a bleeding disorder or are on blood thinners
- Have had allergic reactions to any antibiotics in the past

- Other antibiotics, especially aminoglycosides
