This medicine combination is used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections, especially those caused by bacteria that are resistant to plain ceftriaxone.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Abdominal and intra-abdominal infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Bloodstream infections (septicaemia)
• Infections in hospitalised or critically ill patients

HOW IT WORKS

• Ceftriaxone stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall, causing them to die
• Tazobactam blocks certain bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases) that would otherwise destroy ceftriaxone
• Together they widen the range of bacteria the antibiotic can treat, including some resistant strains

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral infections such as common cold, flu, or most sore throats
• Fungal infections
• Minor infections that can be treated with oral antibiotics
• Preventing infection without medical advice

HOW TO TAKE IT

• This medicine is given only as an injection, into a vein (IV) or muscle (IM), by a doctor or nurse
• It is not available as a tablet or syrup
• The dose and duration will be decided by your doctor based on the type and severity of infection
• Complete the full course even if you start feeling better, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Do not self-administer this medicine at home without medical supervision

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Since this is given under medical supervision, contact your hospital or clinic immediately if a scheduled dose is missed
• Do not try to make up for a missed dose on your own
• Follow the revised schedule given by your healthcare provider

STORAGE

• Store as directed by the hospital pharmacy, usually in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
• Keep out of reach of children
• Prepared injection solutions should be used promptly and not stored for later use unless specified by the manufacturer
• Do not use if the vial appears discoloured or has particles in it

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
