This medicine is used mainly in cancer treatment and in certain neurological conditions.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of certain types of leukaemia
- Treatment of advanced breast cancer
- Treatment of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
- Treatment of worsening forms of multiple sclerosis to reduce relapses
HOW IT WORKS
- Mitoxantrone interferes with the DNA of rapidly dividing cancer cells, stopping them from growing and multiplying
- It also reduces the activity of certain immune cells that attack the nervous system in multiple sclerosis
- Sodium Chloride and Sodium Metabisulphite act as stabilising and diluting agents in the injection, ensuring the drug remains safe and effective when infused
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for common infections or fever
- Not used for pain relief
- Not used as a first-line treatment for mild or early-stage cancers
- Not a cure for multiple sclerosis, only helps control relapses

- Severe allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face, or difficulty breathing

HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given only as an intravenous infusion by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic
- It is not available as a tablet or self-administered injection
- The dose and frequency will be decided by your oncologist or neurologist based on your condition and blood test results
- Regular blood tests and heart function tests (ECG/ECHO) are usually done before each dose
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Since this is given under medical supervision on a fixed schedule, missed doses are managed and rescheduled by your treating doctor
- Do not attempt to self-administer or make up for a missed dose
- Contact your treatment centre if you are unable to attend a scheduled infusion appointment
STORAGE
- Stored at the hospital or pharmacy under controlled, refrigerated conditions as per manufacturer instructions
- Not meant for home storage
