Oxytetracycline injection is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria in various parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Certain sexually transmitted infections
- Infections caused by rickettsia and some other atypical organisms
- Eye infections in certain cases
HOW IT WORKS
- Oxytetracycline blocks bacterial protein production
- This stops bacteria from growing and multiplying
- It allows the body's own defence system to clear the remaining infection
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not work against viral infections such as flu or common cold
- It is not effective against fungal infections
- It should not be used to treat infections known to be resistant to tetracyclines
- It is not a general painkiller or fever reducer

HOW TO TAKE IT
- This medicine is given as an injection, usually by a doctor or nurse

- Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor advises otherwise
- Take at the times advised by your doctor to maintain steady levels in the body
- Avoid taking with dairy products, antacids, or iron supplements close to the dose as they may reduce effectiveness

- Contact your doctor or clinic as soon as possible to reschedule
- Do not double the next dose to make up for a missed one
- Keep to your doctor's follow-up schedule for the remaining course
STORAGE
- Store as directed on the label, usually in a cool place away from direct sunlight
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use if the solution looks discoloured or has particles in it
- Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack
