This medicine is used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria, often in hospitalised patients.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Serious lung infections such as pneumonia
• Complicated skin and soft tissue infections
• Intra-abdominal infections such as peritonitis or abscess
• Urinary tract infections, including complicated cases
• Infections in blood (bacteremia/sepsis) caused by susceptible bacteria
• Infections in patients with weakened immunity, such as those with low white blood cell counts (febrile neutropenia)

HOW IT WORKS

• Piperacillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that stops bacteria from building their cell walls, killing them
• Tazobactam blocks certain bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases) that would otherwise destroy piperacillin
