WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Infections of the respiratory tract such as pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Infections of the abdomen (peritonitis, biliary tract infections)
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Infections of the blood (septicaemia)
- Infections after surgery
- Pelvic and gynaecological infections
HOW IT WORKS
- Cefoperazone is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by damaging their cell wall
- Sulbactam blocks bacterial enzymes that would otherwise destroy cefoperazone
- Together they widen the range of bacteria the medicine can treat
- This combination is especially useful against bacteria that have become resistant to plain antibiotics
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu, or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- Mild infections that can be treated with oral antibiotics
