This combination medicine is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye or ear that are accompanied by inflammation.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Bacterial conjunctivitis and other eye infections with inflammation
- Bacterial infections of the outer ear canal with swelling or itching
- Post-operative eye inflammation with risk of infection, as advised by your doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Gentamicin is an antibiotic that kills or stops the growth of susceptible bacteria
- Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, swelling and itching
- Together they treat the infection while also calming the inflammatory response
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral eye or ear infections such as those caused by herpes virus
- Fungal infections of the eye or ear
- Plain allergic eye redness without infection
- Long-term or routine use without medical supervision
Use this medicine only for the condition and duration your doctor has prescribed, as inappropriate use can worsen infections or cause resistance.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Mild burning or stinging on application
- Temporary blurred vision after eye drops
- Watering of eyes
- Itching at the application site
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Dryness or irritation of the eye or ear
- Taste disturbance if drops drain into the throat
- Mild redness that persists
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Severe eye pain or worsening redness
- Sudden vision loss or significant vision changes
- Signs of increased eye pressure like halos around lights or headache
- Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, rash or difficulty breathing
- Signs of new or worsening infection despite treatment
- Ear pain, discharge or hearing changes with ear use

How to Use Pyricort Drops (Gentamicin + Dexamethasone)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Use only as directed by your doctor, in the exact frequency and duration prescribed
- Wash your hands before use
- For eye drops, tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid and place the drop inside without touching the dropper tip to the eye
- For ear drops, tilt your head sideways and place the drops as instructed, keeping the head tilted for a minute
- Do not touch the applicator tip to any surface to avoid contamination
- Do not stop the medicine early even if symptoms improve, unless your doctor advises so
- Do not use for longer than prescribed
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
- Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store as per instructions on the label, usually at room temperature away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Discard the bottle after the recommended period once opened, usually within four weeks
- Do not use if the solution changes colour or appears cloudy

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to gentamicin, dexamethasone or any other ingredient in the product
- Have a viral infection of the eye such as herpes simplex keratitis
- Have a fungal infection of the eye or ear
- Have an untreated eye infection with unknown cause
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have glaucoma or a history of increased eye pressure
- Have had a perforated eardrum
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Wear contact lenses
- Are using any other eye or ear medication
- Have diabetes, as steroids can affect blood sugar
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Other eye or ear drops used at the same time, without spacing them apart
- Other steroid-containing products used on the same area
- Other antibiotics affecting hearing or kidney function if used long-term
