Framycetin is used to treat bacterial infections affecting the skin, wounds, and sometimes the eyes or ears.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Infected cuts, wounds, ulcers and burns
• Skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria
• Prevention of infection in minor wounds after cleaning
• Certain eye or ear infections when prescribed in drop form

HOW IT WORKS

• Framycetin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic
• It works by stopping bacteria from producing proteins they need to survive and multiply
• This action kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection
• Being applied locally, it acts mainly on the site of application rather than throughout the body

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral infections such as cold sores, chickenpox or shingles
• Fungal infections like ringworm or candida
• Deep or systemic infections requiring oral or injectable antibiotics
• Acne or general skin dryness/irritation not caused by bacteria

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Mild burning or stinging at the application site
• Redness or itching of the skin
• Dryness around the applied area

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Skin rash
• Delayed wound healing with prolonged use
• Local irritation with repeated application over large areas

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of face/lips/throat, severe itching, or difficulty breathing
• Hearing changes or ringing in the ears (rare, mainly with use on large wounds or damaged skin)
• Signs of kidney problems such as reduced urine output (rare, with extensive or prolonged use)
• Severe skin blistering or peeling

How to Use SOFRAMYCIN SKIN (Framycetin 1% w/w)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Use only on the skin, eye or ear as directed by your doctor; it is not for swallowing
• Clean and dry the affected area gently before applying
• Apply a thin layer of the cream/ointment or the prescribed number of drops as advised
• Wash your hands before and after application
• Use for the full duration advised by your doctor, even if the area looks better, unless told to stop
• Do not bandage tightly unless instructed

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one and continue as scheduled
• Do not apply extra to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the cap tightly closed after use
• Keep out of reach of children
• Discard any unused product after the expiry date or as advised by your pharmacist
