Uses and Benefits of XINASONE CREAM (DESOXIMETASONE 0.25% W/W)

Desoximetasone 0.25% w/w is a topical corticosteroid used to treat inflammatory and itchy skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and other steroid-responsive dermatoses.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Relieving redness, swelling and itching due to eczema
• Managing symptoms of psoriasis plaques
• Treating allergic skin reactions and dermatitis
• Reducing inflammation in various steroid-responsive skin disorders

HOW IT WORKS

• It is a potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by acting on skin cells
• It suppresses the release of substances in the body that cause redness, swelling and itching
• It helps calm overactive immune responses in the skin

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for acne or rosacea
• Not used for fungal, bacterial or viral skin infections unless combined with specific anti-infective treatment as advised by a doctor
• Not meant for long-term daily use on large areas of skin without medical supervision
• Not to be used on broken skin or open wounds unless directed by a doctor

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Burning or stinging at the site of application
• Itching
• Dryness of skin
• Redness

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Thinning of skin with prolonged use
• Stretch marks (striae)
• Changes in skin colour
• Increased hair growth at the site
• Acne-like eruptions

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue or difficulty breathing
• Signs of skin infection such as pus, increasing pain or swelling
• Severe skin thinning, easy bruising or visible blood vessels
• Signs of excess steroid absorption such as unusual weight gain, weakness or vision changes

How to Use XINASONE CREAM (DESOXIMETASONE 0.25% W/W)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Use only on the skin, exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• Wash and dry the affected area before applying
• Apply a thin layer and gently rub in
• Wash your hands after application unless the hands are being treated
• Do not cover the area with airtight dressings unless your doctor tells you to
• Do not use more often or for longer than prescribed
• Avoid applying on the face, groin or underarms unless specifically advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one
• Do not apply extra to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep the tube tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to desoximetasone or any other corticosteroid
• Have a skin infection (bacterial, viral or fungal) that is untreated
• Have rosacea, acne or perioral dermatitis on the area to be treated

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Are using it on a child, as children are more sensitive to steroid absorption
• Have thin or damaged skin
• Are using other steroid creams or medicines
• Need to use it on the face, groin or skin folds
• Have diabetes or a weakened immune system

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Other topical or oral corticosteroids
• Other skin products that may increase irritation
• Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements and skin products you are using
