WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Infections of the ear, nose and throat
• Chest and lung infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Dental infections and abscesses
• Certain infections of the stomach and intestines

HOW IT WORKS

• It belongs to a group of medicines called penicillin antibiotics
• It stops bacteria from forming their outer cell wall
• Without a proper cell wall, the bacteria cannot survive and the infection clears

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not work against viral infections like common cold, flu or most sore throats
• It is not effective for infections caused by bacteria resistant to penicillin
• It should not be used to self-treat fever without knowing the cause
• It is not a painkiller and does not directly reduce pain or fever on its own

How to Use Amoxycillin 200mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the dose and frequency advised
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
• Swallow tablets or capsules with a full glass of water
• Shake the syrup well before measuring the dose with the marked cup or spoon provided
• Complete the full course even if you start feeling better, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Try to take doses at evenly spaced times through the day

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep syrup in the refrigerator if advised on the label, but do not freeze
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Discard any unused liquid after the period mentioned on the label once opened

• Severe or bloody diarrhoea, especially if it continues after stopping the medicine
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, signs of liver problems
• Unusual bleeding or bruising

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to amoxycillin, penicillin or any related antibiotics

• Have a history of liver problems
• Have a history of allergies, asthma or hay fever
• Have had diarrhoea after taking antibiotics before

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Blood thinners such as warfarin
• Methotrexate used for cancer or arthritis
• Allopurinol used for gout
• Other antibiotics
• Oral contraceptive pills, as effectiveness may be reduced
