  • Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis and tonsillitis
  • Ear infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Dental infections
  • Some infections of the stomach in combination with other medicines

HOW IT WORKS

  • It belongs to the penicillin family of antibiotics
  • It stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall
  • Without a proper cell wall, the bacteria burst and die
  • This reduces the number of bacteria causing the infection and helps the body fight it off

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • It does not work against viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
  • It is not effective against bacteria resistant to it, unless combined with another agent

How to Use Amoxycillin 500mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the dose and frequency advised
  • Can be taken with or without food, but taking with food may reduce stomach upset
  • Swallow the tablet or capsule with a glass of water; do not chew unless directed
  • Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
  • Try to take doses at evenly spaced intervals through the day

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
  • If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
  • Keep out of reach and sight of children
  • Any reconstituted liquid suspension should be kept as advised, usually in a cool place, and discarded after the stated period
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

  • Allopurinol, which may increase risk of skin rash
