This combination medicine is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, soft tissue, respiratory tract, ENT region, and other body sites where the causing bacteria are sensitive to both these antibiotics.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Skin and soft tissue infections such as boils, abscesses and wound infections
  • Respiratory tract infections like bronchitis and throat infections
  • Ear, nose and throat infections
  • Infections after surgery, as directed by the doctor
  • Other bacterial infections where a mixed or resistant organism is suspected

HOW IT WORKS

  • Ampicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that stops bacteria from building their cell wall, causing them to die
  • Dicloxacillin also stops cell wall formation but additionally resists breakdown by an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that some bacteria use to destroy ampicillin
  • Together they cover a wider range of bacteria than either drug alone

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually on an empty stomach, about an hour before or two hours after food, unless advised otherwise
