WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Preventing stroke and blood clots in people with a heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation
  • Preventing blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery
  • Treating and preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)

HOW IT WORKS

  • It blocks a clotting factor called Factor Xa in the blood
  • This slows down the clotting process and prevents unwanted clot formation
  • It does not dissolve existing large clots but helps prevent new ones

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain or swelling directly
  • It is not used for minor cuts or routine bleeding control
  • It is not a substitute for other heart medicines like blood pressure tablets
  • It should not be used to treat infections or unrelated illnesses

How to Use Apixaban 2.5mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
  • Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food
  • Do not crush or chew unless your doctor has told you it is safe to do so
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can increase the risk of clots
  • Keep taking it for as long as your doctor recommends, even if you feel well

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
  • If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
  • Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

  • Unusual or heavy bleeding after an injury or surgery
