Atorvastatin 80mg — Uses and Benefits
Atorvastatin 80mg is prescribed for people with high cholesterol or those at high risk of heart disease.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Lowering high LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides
- Raising HDL (good) cholesterol
- Reducing risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular events in high-risk patients
- Managing cholesterol along with diet and lifestyle changes
- Use after certain heart procedures or in patients with existing heart disease, as advised by doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Blocks an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase in the liver
- This enzyme is needed to make cholesterol
- By blocking it, the liver produces less cholesterol
- The liver also removes more cholesterol already in the blood
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not a painkiller or antibiotic
- Not used for immediate relief of chest pain or heart attack
- Not a substitute for diet, exercise, or other prescribed heart medicines
- Not for weight loss
How to Use Atorvastatin 80mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
- Can be taken with or without food
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Try to take it at the same time each day for best results
- Continue taking it even if you feel well, since cholesterol control needs regular use
- Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
- Do not take double the dose to make up for a missed one

- Severe allergic reaction: swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, severe rash
- Signs of high blood sugar such as increased thirst or frequent urination

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
