Bethanechol chloride is used to treat difficulty in passing urine caused by a bladder that does not contract properly, a condition known as urinary retention.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Non-obstructive urinary retention after surgery
• Urinary retention after childbirth
• Bladder weakness caused by nerve damage
• Sometimes used to help empty the bladder in certain neurogenic bladder conditions

HOW IT WORKS

• It stimulates cholinergic receptors in the bladder muscle
• This increases the strength and frequency of bladder muscle contractions
• This helps the bladder empty more completely
• It can also increase movement in the stomach and intestines

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used when urinary retention is caused by a physical blockage such as an enlarged prostate or urethral stricture
• It is not a painkiller
• It is not used for bladder infections
• It is not a general laxative, even though it may help gut movement

How to Use Bethanechol Chloride 25mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• It is usually taken on an empty stomach, about an hour before or two hours after meals, to reduce nausea
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush unless your doctor advises
• Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own
• Take it at the same times each day for best effect

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, inform your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original container, tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use the medicine after the expiry date printed on the pack
