WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Occasional constipation
• Bowel cleansing before colonoscopy, X-ray, or surgery
• Constipation caused by prolonged bed rest or certain medicines

HOW IT WORKS

• It stimulates the nerves in the wall of the large intestine
• This increases the muscle movement (contractions) of the bowel
• It also helps water and salts to build up inside the intestine, softening the stool
• Together this leads to easier and quicker passage of stool, usually within 6 to 12 hours

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not treat the underlying cause of constipation such as poor diet or low fluid intake
• It is not meant for long-term or daily use
• It does not treat diarrhoea, bloating, or abdominal pain unrelated to constipation

How to Use Bisacodyl 10mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take the tablet as prescribed by your doctor, usually at bedtime, as it works overnight
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it, as this can cause stomach irritation
• Do not take it within an hour of drinking milk or antacids, as this may reduce its effectiveness
