Brivaracetam 100mg — Uses and Benefits
Brivaracetam is used to treat epilepsy, a condition in which abnormal electrical activity in the brain causes seizures.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- To treat partial-onset (focal) seizures, with or without spread to other parts of the brain
- Often used along with other anti-epileptic medicines, though it may sometimes be used alone as advised by your doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It binds to a specific protein in brain cells (SV2A) that helps control the release of chemical messengers
- This action helps reduce abnormal, excessive electrical signalling that causes seizures
- Regular use helps lower the frequency of seizure episodes
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat headache or migraine
- It is not used for anxiety, sleep problems or mood disorders
- It is not a cure for epilepsy; it only helps control seizures while you continue taking it
- It should not be stopped suddenly without medical advice, even if seizures are well controlled
