Cefixime 200mg — Uses and Benefits
Cefixime 200mg is prescribed to treat bacterial infections in different parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Infections of the throat and tonsils
- Infections of the middle ear
- Infections of the sinuses
- Infections of the urinary tract
- Certain infections of the lungs and airways such as bronchitis
- Typhoid fever caused by susceptible bacteria
HOW IT WORKS
- Belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics
- Stops bacteria from forming a proper cell wall
- Weakened cell wall causes the bacteria to burst and die
- Active against a wide range of bacteria, both gram-positive and gram-negative
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not work against viral infections like common cold, flu, or most sore throats
- It is not effective against fungal infections
- It should not be used to self-treat fever without knowing the cause
- It is not a painkiller and does not relieve pain directly

How to Use Cefixime 200mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
- Swallow tablets with a glass of water; shake the suspension well before use if prescribed
- Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve before finishing it
- Do not stop the medicine early as this can lead to the infection returning or antibiotic resistance
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light, and moisture
- Keep the oral suspension in the refrigerator only if advised by the pharmacist, and discard any unused portion after the recommended period
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

- Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Severe skin reactions with blistering or peeling
