Cefuroxime 500mg is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria in various parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
- Ear, nose and throat infections like tonsillitis and sinusitis
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Gonorrhoea (in specific situations as advised by doctor)
- Prevention of infection during certain surgeries, as decided by the treating doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It belongs to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics
- It works by stopping bacteria from building their protective cell wall
- Without a proper cell wall, the bacteria die, clearing the infection
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not treat viral infections such as common cold or flu
- It is not effective against fungal infections
- It should not be used as a general painkiller or fever medicine
- It is not meant for self-medication without a doctor's prescription
How to Use Cefuroxime 500mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually after food to reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says it is fine
- Complete the full course even if you feel better, to prevent the infection from returning or becoming resistant
- Try to take doses at evenly spaced times each day
