WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Long-term control of high blood pressure
• Used when a single blood pressure medicine is not enough
• May be used to reduce strain on the heart caused by high blood pressure

HOW IT WORKS

• Chlorthalidone helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, lowering blood volume and pressure
• Cilnidipine relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into vessel walls, lowering resistance to blood flow
• Together they give a stronger blood pressure lowering effect than either alone

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for immediate emergency lowering of very high blood pressure
• Not a treatment for chest pain (angina) on its own
• Not used for heart rhythm problems
• Not a painkiller or fever medicine

How to Use Chlorthalidone 12.5mg + Cilnidipine 10mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Take at the same time each day, generally in the morning
• Can be taken with or without food, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless instructed
• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness

• Low blood pressure on standing up
• Flushing or warmth in face
• Palpitations

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe dizziness or fainting
• Signs of low potassium such as severe muscle weakness or irregular heartbeat
• Very little or no urine output
• Severe allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face/throat, or difficulty breathing
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Chest pain or severe irregular heartbeat
