Ciclopirox Olamine 1% is an antifungal medicine used as a topical cream, lotion, gel, shampoo or nail lacquer to treat fungal and yeast infections of the skin, scalp and nails. Ciclopirox Olamine 1% is used to treat fungal and yeast infections affecting the skin, scalp and nails.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Ringworm infections of the skin (tinea)
- Athlete's foot (tinea pedis)
- Jock itch (tinea cruris)
- Fungal infections of the nails (as a lacquer)
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff (as a shampoo form)
- Candida (yeast) skin infections
HOW IT WORKS
- It interferes with the transport of essential nutrients into fungal cells
- This stops fungal cells from growing and multiplying
- It has activity against a broad range of fungi and yeasts
- It also has some anti-inflammatory action which helps reduce itching and redness
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for bacterial skin infections
- Not used for viral infections like herpes or warts
- Not used for internal or systemic fungal infections
- Not a substitute for oral antifungal therapy in severe or widespread infections
- Not meant for eye use or accidental ingestion
How to Use Ciclopirox Olamine 1%
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Use only on the skin, scalp or nails as advised by your doctor
- Clean and dry the affected area before application
- Apply a thin layer and gently rub it in, unless using nail lacquer, which is painted on like nail polish
- Wash your hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated
- Use regularly for the full duration advised, even if symptoms improve early
- Do not cover the area with airtight dressings unless told to do so
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Apply it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one
- Do not apply extra or double amounts to make up for a missed dose
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
- Keep the container tightly closed
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Mild burning or stinging at the application site
- Itching
- Redness of the skin
- Dryness or peeling of skin

- Increased skin irritation

- Discomfort while applying on nails

- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips or throat
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe blistering, oozing or peeling of the skin
- Signs of a worsening infection despite regular use
