This medicine is mainly used to treat various inflammatory skin conditions.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Psoriasis
• Eczema and other stubborn dermatitis
• Lichen planus and other resistant skin disorders
• Severe itching, redness and inflammation of the skin

HOW IT WORKS

• Clobetasol is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by acting on skin cells
• It suppresses the release of substances in the body that cause redness, swelling and itching
• Being highly potent, it works quickly on stubborn or resistant skin patches

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not for acne, rosacea or ordinary pimples
• Not for fungal, bacterial or viral skin infections unless combined with a specific anti-infective and prescribed for that purpose
• Not for use on face, groin or armpits unless specifically advised by the doctor
• Not a moisturiser or cosmetic skin cream
• Not for long-term daily use without medical review

How to Use Clobetasol (0.05% W/W)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Use only on the skin, as advised by your doctor
• Wash and dry the affected area before applying
• Apply a thin layer to the affected skin only, not on healthy surrounding skin
• Use exactly for the duration prescribed; do not use for longer than advised
• Wash your hands after application unless the hands are the treated area
• Do not cover the area with airtight bandages unless your doctor tells you to
• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose and open wounds

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one
• Do not apply extra or more frequently to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep the cap tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Burning or stinging at application site
• Itching
• Dryness of skin
• Redness

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Thinning of skin
• Stretch marks
• Visible small blood vessels on skin
• Change in skin colour
• Acne-like spots

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips or throat
• Signs of skin infection such as pus, increased pain or spreading redness
• Severe skin thinning, tearing or ulcers
• Signs of the medicine being absorbed into the body such as unusual weight gain, weakness or mood changes (more likely with prolonged or excessive use)
• Blurred vision or eye pain if used near eyes
