Clobetasol propionate is used to treat inflammatory skin conditions that have not responded well to milder steroid treatments.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Psoriasis (a skin condition causing thick, scaly patches)
• Eczema and dermatitis that is severe or resistant to other treatments
• Lichen planus and other inflammatory skin disorders
• Severe allergic skin reactions causing redness, swelling and itching

HOW IT WORKS

• It reduces inflammation by suppressing the immune response in the skin
• It narrows blood vessels in the skin, reducing redness and swelling
• It relieves itching and discomfort caused by inflamed skin

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for acne, rosacea or fungal skin infections unless specifically advised
• It is not meant for long-term daily use on large areas of the body
• It is not to be used on the face, groin or underarms unless a doctor specifically instructs
• It is not a treatment for infections caused by bacteria, fungi or viruses on its own

How to Use Clobetasol Propionate

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Apply a thin layer to the affected skin only, as prescribed by your doctor
• Wash and dry your hands before and after application unless the hands are being treated
• Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless your doctor tells you to
• Avoid applying to the face, eyes, mouth or genital area unless specifically directed
• Use only for the duration advised by your doctor; do not continue longer than prescribed

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not apply extra or more frequently to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the tube or container tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Burning or stinging sensation at the site of application
• Dryness or itching of the skin
• Redness of the treated area

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Thinning of the skin with prolonged use
• Stretch marks or visible small blood vessels on the skin
• Changes in skin colour at the application site
• Increased hair growth in the treated area

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of skin infection such as pus, increased pain or swelling
• Severe allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face or difficulty breathing
• Signs of hormonal imbalance such as unusual weight gain, weakness or high blood sugar (with excessive or prolonged use)
• Vision problems or eye pain if the medicine accidentally enters the eyes

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to clobetasol propionate or any other corticosteroid
• Have a skin infection (bacterial, fungal or viral) that is untreated
• Have acne, rosacea or thin/damaged skin in the area, unless advised by a doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Other topical steroid products, to avoid excess steroid absorption
• Other topical medicines applied to the same area, as they may increase irritation
• Oral or injectable corticosteroids, which can add to overall steroid effects
