Crotamiton is mainly used for the treatment of scabies and for relief of itching (pruritus) associated with various skin conditions.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of scabies infestation
• Relief of itching caused by scabies or other skin conditions
• Applied to skin as directed by doctor for insect bite related itching in some cases

HOW IT WORKS

• Crotamiton has scabicidal action that kills the mite (Sarcoptes scabiei) responsible for scabies
• It also has a mild antipruritic (anti-itch) effect on the skin
• Applied topically, it acts locally at the site of application

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for fungal skin infections
• Not used for bacterial skin infections
• Not a treatment for allergic skin rashes unrelated to scabies
• Not meant for oral use or use in eyes

How to Use Crotamiton (10% W/W)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• For external use on skin only, not to be taken by mouth
• Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin as advised by your doctor
• Massage gently into the skin, covering the entire affected area as directed
• Wash hands thoroughly after application unless hands are being treated
• Follow the exact frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor
• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose and other mucous membranes

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one and continue as scheduled
• Do not apply extra amount to make up for a missed application

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the container tightly closed
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Mild burning or stinging at application site
• Skin dryness
• Mild redness of skin

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Itching that worsens temporarily after application
• Skin irritation or rash
• Feeling of warmth on applied skin

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe skin rash, blistering or peeling
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips or throat
• Difficulty breathing
• Severe or worsening irritation that does not settle
