Dalfampridine is used to treat walking difficulty in people who have multiple sclerosis (MS).

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• To improve walking speed and ability in adults with multiple sclerosis
• Used as an add-on treatment alongside other MS therapies, as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks certain potassium channels on nerve fibres
• This helps improve the conduction of nerve signals in nerves that have lost their protective covering (myelin) due to MS
• Better nerve signalling can lead to improved walking ability in some patients

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not treat or cure multiple sclerosis itself
• It does not reduce MS relapses or slow disease progression
• It is not used for general muscle weakness unrelated to MS
• It is not a painkiller or anti-inflammatory medicine
• It should not be used for other neurological conditions without medical advice

How to Use Dalfampridine 10mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually as one tablet twice a day
• Take doses about 12 hours apart, at the same times each day
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush, split, or chew it
• Can be taken with or without food, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Do not take more than the prescribed number of doses in a day

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time
• Do not take two doses together or extra doses to make up for a missed one
• Never double the dose, as this increases the risk of seizures

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the tablets in their original container
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use the medicine after the expiry date printed on the pack

• Seizures (fits) — this is the most serious risk with this medicine
• Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face/lips/throat, or difficulty breathing
• Severe dizziness or fainting
• Confusion or unusual behaviour

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
