This medicine is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially when diet, exercise, and a single medicine are not enough to control blood sugar.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Controlling high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) in type 2 diabetes
- Used along with diet and exercise
- Often prescribed when one diabetes medicine alone is not enough
HOW IT WORKS
- Dapagliflozin blocks sugar reabsorption in the kidneys, causing extra sugar to be passed out in urine
- Vildagliptin increases natural insulin release and reduces sugar production by the liver after meals
- Together they lower blood sugar through two different mechanisms
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for type 1 diabetes
- Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis
- Not a substitute for insulin in insulin-dependent patients
- Not used for weight loss on its own, though some weight loss may occur
- Not meant for children
How to Use Dapagliflozin 5mg + Vildagliptin 100mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
- Can be taken with or without food, at the same time each day
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well
- Keep following the diet and exercise plan suggested by your doctor
- Do not stop the medicine without talking to your doctor
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
- If you often forget doses, ask your doctor about reminder strategies
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight
- Keep in the original packaging until ready to use

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Urinary tract infection
- Genital yeast infection
- Increased urination
- Headache
- Dizziness

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Low blood sugar (especially when combined with other diabetes medicines)
- Back pain
- Tremor
- Dry mouth
- Constipation or diarrhoea
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Signs of diabetic ketoacidosis: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual tiredness, difficulty breathing (even with normal blood sugar)
- Severe pain, swelling, or redness in the genital or groin area (rare but serious infection)
- Signs of dehydration or low blood pressure: dizziness, fainting
- Signs of liver problems: yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine, severe fatigue
- Signs of pancreatitis: severe stomach pain spreading to back, persistent vomiting
- Signs of severe allergic reaction: swelling of face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing, rash

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to dapagliflozin, vildagliptin, or any ingredient in the tablet
- Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
- Have severe kidney disease or are on dialysis
- Have severe liver disease
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have a history of urinary tract or genital infections
- Have kidney or liver problems
- Have a history of pancreatitis
- Are on a low-sodium or low-salt diet, or have low blood pressure
- Are elderly or dehydrated
- Have heart failure or are on diuretics (water pills)
