Diclofenac — Uses and Benefits
Diclofenac is used to treat pain and inflammation caused by various conditions.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis pain
- Muscle sprains, strains, and back pain
- Pain and swelling after surgery or injury
- Menstrual cramps
- Dental pain
- Eye inflammation (when used as eye drops)
HOW IT WORKS
- Diclofenac blocks certain enzymes (COX enzymes) in the body
- This reduces the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that cause pain, swelling, and fever
- As a result, pain and inflammation are reduced
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used to treat infections
- It does not cure the underlying disease causing joint pain, such as arthritis
- It is not a first-choice medicine for fever alone
- It should not be used for long-term pain relief without medical supervision
How to Use Diclofenac
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water, preferably with or after food
- Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you to
- If using gel, apply a thin layer to the affected area and wash hands after use
- If using eye drops, follow the instructions given by your doctor carefully
- Do not take more than the prescribed dose or use it for longer than advised
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
- Keep gel tubes tightly closed after use

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Stomach pain or upset
- Nausea
- Heartburn
- Diarrhoea or constipation
- Headache
- Dizziness
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Skin rash or itching
- Fluid retention causing swelling in legs or ankles
- Increased blood pressure
- Ringing in the ears
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Black or bloody stools, or vomiting blood (signs of stomach bleeding)
- Severe stomach pain
- Yellowing of skin or eyes (signs of liver problems)
- Chest pain, shortness of breath, or sudden weakness (signs of heart or stroke problems)
- Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
- Swelling of face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)
- Sudden decrease in urine output

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
