Diloxanide Furoate 500mg is mainly used to treat infection of the intestine caused by amoeba (a type of parasite).

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of intestinal amoebiasis, including the carrier state where a person has amoeba cysts but no active symptoms
• Often used after treatment of acute amoebic dysentery to clear remaining cysts from the intestine
• Sometimes used along with other anti-amoebic medicines for invasive amoebiasis

HOW IT WORKS

• Acts directly on the amoeba parasite in the intestine and kills it
• Is especially effective against the cyst form of the amoeba, which helps prevent the infection from spreading or coming back
• Works mainly within the gut and is not effective for infection that has spread to organs like the liver when used alone

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for viral or bacterial diarrhoea
• Not a first-choice treatment for amoebic liver abscess when used alone
• Not used for worm infestations or other types of parasitic infections unrelated to amoeba
• Not meant for general stomach upset or food poisoning

How to Use Diloxanide Furoate 500mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or after food to reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says so
• Complete the full course even if you start feeling better, as stopping early may not fully clear the infection
• Take at the same time each day to help you remember

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original pack until it is time to take the dose
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
