WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of anal fissures

HOW IT WORKS

• Diltiazem relaxes the smooth muscle of the anal sphincter when applied locally

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used to treat high blood pressure or heart conditions in this topical form
• It is not a treatment for hemorrhoids (piles) directly, though it may be used alongside other treatments

• It should not be used as a painkiller for unrelated pain

How to Use Diltiazem (2% W/W)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• This medicine is for external application only, not to be swallowed
• Wash and dry the area gently before applying, as advised by your doctor
• Apply a small amount to the affected area using a clean finger or applicator as instructed
• Wash your hands well after application unless the hands are the area being treated
• Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor regarding frequency and duration
• Do not apply more than the recommended amount

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one and continue as normal
• Do not apply extra to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep out of reach of children
• Keep the tube tightly closed after use
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Mild burning or itching at the site of application
• Headache
• Local irritation or redness

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness
• Flushing of the skin
• Nausea

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or throat
• Difficulty breathing
• Severe skin rash or blistering
• Fainting or severe dizziness
